Learning to Write-Well
In fact, talking and writing are forms of symbolic thought. Like thinking and speaking, writing means to communicate; to communicate with yourself and others. To write with no purpose is useless. It is a waste of time. We want to write in order to deliver a message, to be understood and useful. All what we said about the culture of thought and speech, may apply to the culture of writing. Writing is a powerful way to communication. Learning to write well opens the door to success and happiness. Many people fail in some domains of their life, because they have not made themselves understood. One thing is to say something, but to say it and be understood is another challenge. It is imprudent and less efficient to believe that: no mater how we talk, people will understand anyway. No. We must make sure that they understand. Make sure that your message is understood as you want it to be. Write-well: communication To communicate is an art and can be learned. That is why communication is a specialty taught at school; like pedagogy (the art of teaching). Pedagogy was born because people realized that: mastering a subject, does not mean that someone knows how to teach or communicate that subject. It is possible to teach by word or by writing. Because some mistakes in grammar (conjugation, orthography, abbreviation, vocabulary, syntax, punctuation, etc.), can impair the content, the meaning and scope of a message. Write-well: making it right As we said earlier, about the culture of speech, mistakes can create aversion in the mind of those who hear or read. The reader or the listener might withdraw his sympathy and avoid the writer or the person who is talking. An impatient reader might say: "I have enough. I am done. I regret having started to read this... There is certainly something better to read somewhere." Mistakes can change the meaning of ideas and distort the message. Thus, the author runs the risk to get the opposite result of what he expected. It makes sense to manifest a politeness toward one language, by avoiding making mistakes. But of course, there is mistake and mistake... We have also said: those who are better than us in English will notice that English language is not our first language. Actually English is our third language. By saying so, we are not justifying ourselves. What we say now doest change what we just say above. We try to do our best. It is well known that: "A picture is worth a thousand words." Vivid writing will be more rooted in the consciousness and subconscious. To give examples, illustrations, comparisons, parables, hyperbole, etc., help the writing to be well rooted in the inner mind. Your writings should display the strength of your willpower, confidence and personality. Powerful and robust writings show a strong personality; a strong personality with a strong mind. These types of writings are effective and get on. These writings defy time and become classics. Write-well: confidence Be confident when you write or speak. Be yourselves, in all simplicity and brevity. Here, simplicity doesn’t rhymes with simplistic. Simplicity is no lightness. Simple writings are not unnecessarily complicated. While simplistic writings are close to mediocrity. One way or another, to be simple and brief does not have to impair the clarity and effectiveness of your message. Of course, when someone writes or speaks it is important to know the subject. What a disaster, to read or listen to someone who does not know his subject! Again, the ignorant or the fool passes unnoticed as long as he does not speak or write. But he might be noticed when he does so. Write-well: the right to make mistake? Let’s clarify our conversation. Our objective is not to silence those who do not know. Our goal is to warn people who read or listen to those who do not know. We want also to warn those who address to a large number of people. We know that one learns with errors; the poet talks about: "The right to make mistake." Yes. But when someone misled people because he did not take time to learn and understand... Write-well: know your topic It is through learning, asceticism and understanding that the foot tender become a pro; and starts to knock about the world. A pleasant and friendly tone enhances the effectiveness of a message. Write-well: honesty Let’s write honestly. Yes. Let us be honest in our writings. Anyway, some deceptions or frauds are so obvious that they make birds laugh. Many readers are more intelligent than what a crook thinks. Lie is not a virtue; lie leads nowhere. Sooner or later the truth eventually prevails, and the liar pays the price for his lies. A bitter price, believe me. We know that some lies are not premeditated. So to say, some people lie in good faith. That is to say: they do not know that what they say or write is a lie. But a lie is a lie. Let’s remind this: «A lie means to say what is not true.» However: «To lie means also to refuse the truth.» Write-well: sense of humor As mentioned above, an intelligent humor reinforces the value of writings. An intelligent humour doesn’t hurt someone. This kind of humor shows love and respect. An intelligent humor should match the context. That is to say, it must enhance the effectiveness of the message and not dilute it. Ill humour might lead to illness. Let’s develop our sense of humor, while respecting the sensitivities of those who are listening to us; religious, cultural, educational, political, philosophical sensitivity, and so on. Write-well: inner attitude And to paraphrase what we have already say in the section above: 7. Learning to speak well: As in many other physical, mental, spiritual activities, and so on; what you think, say and do are important. Your thoughts, words and deeds are important. The way you think, speak and act is equally important. But what matters more is the inner attitude of the person who thinks, speaks or acts. In other words, the value of thoughts, words and actions is enhanced by the inner value of the person who thinks, speaks, acts or writes. In other words, a person who has a beautiful soul and a beautiful spirit will be more convincing than the mediocre who despise virtues. The writing of a virtuous soul will be convincing. A virtuous person puts virtues in his thoughts, words and deeds. These virtues are both emotional and intellectual. Such a person is also convinced of what he/she thinks, says and does. That is why his/her thoughts, words and actions are very effective and reach their goal. His writings reach the ultimate goal. For a kind of divine aura is surrounding these thoughts, words and deeds. Nothing mysterious. Like me, you have probably read someone one day; and you felt wrapped with something soft and quiet. Something like music from Above seems to coat what he/she wrote. Yet, his writing was not rich in grammar (conjugation, orthography, abbreviation, vocabulary, syntax, punctuation, etc.), or style out of the ordinary. But that writing was coming from a simple, sincere and loving heart. You said: "Unbelievable! This one is telling the truth. He has something good for me. Let’s keep reading." Write-well: an expression of the beauty of the soul Some people say that: "The way someone writes worth more than what is written." Others say: "What is written worth more than the way it is written." We believe that: "The way someone writes and what is written are equally important." But we add this: "The beauty of the soul and spirit of anyone who writes, like an unshakeable faith in what he / she is writing, intensify the value of what is written.
