Understand-Politics

What is politics? What is the definition of politics? Theory of international politics states that it is:

* The art and science of government (singular or plural)

* The public life and affairs as involving authority and government (singular or plural)

* A particular set of ideas, principles, or commitments

* Activities concerned with the acquisition or exercise of authority or government

* An organization principle affecting authority, status, etc.

Understand-Politics: a dilemma

Sometime people say: "Oh, politics does not interest me. It is a waste of time. All politicians are liars and thieves. Man or woman in politics... same thing. They steal as the word, and lie as they breathe."

And other people add: "It's true. Politicians make promises, but never keep their promises. Underground politics is not my cup of coffee. Their goal is to eat people money. That is it."

Other conclude: "Buzz off! These pint-size politicians. I have other fish to fry. I don’t do politics. Left wing politics, moderates or right wing politics... -same beasts same hairs-. These time burglars waste my time. I have no time to lose."

As you can see, people have their own concept of politics; the meaning of politics differs from person to person.

Understand-Politics: so, what to do?

To these simple and clear words, the Institute of Human Cultivation replies: "All domains of society are composed of honest and dishonest people. Economy, politics and religion do not escape that sad reality."

Should we throw all politicians in the trash, because of some indelicate politicians? No. We must learn to sort out. Understanding politics is interesting, because you may use it to your benefit. Truth in politics is not very frequent, but all politicians are not liars.

Understand-Politics: learn first...

And to those who want to change things, we suggest they study politics very well, enter the arena, in order to fight with weapons of justice and truth. News and magazines are good start. But in this section we will suggest an original approach of studying it.

To those who want to change things, we just say: "Study politics very well." That study is important. Many adventurers often engage in a political career, without having studied and understood its structure and function.

Politics is also a science. By the way, don’t they call it political sciences? Many people engage in this adventurous career without having the required knowledge, capacity, skills, gifts, etc. Result? Comments like those we had just read are justified and have their way.

So, those who want to change things with politics should study it carefully, in order to know what they are getting in. African and European politics differ in some points; Canada and Jewish politics are not exactly the same; etc. The logic of American politics and Cuban politics differ, in some extent.

Understand-Politics: communication

A good politician should also learn to communicate well:

Understand-Politics: an octopus

Our third speaker above has said, among other things: "I don’t do politics."

While not suggesting him to do it, we want to say that all social structures immerses in it. All, without exception.

That is maybe why a thinker has said: "You do not do politic? It will do you."

I think this idea would mean that politics affects all things, affects everyone, regardless of whether we do it or not. I would say even more, it affects everything...

Decisions that these politicians take, honest or dishonest, amateur or professional, wise or mediocre, affect each of us whether we like it or not; regardless of whether we do politics or not. In fact, it is an octopus with many tentacles.

Some people like to call politics: The Beast. The tentacles of that octopus affect all things, affect everyone, affect everything... whether religion, economics, or any other domains of society.

Understand-Politics: interrelation

Religion in politics is so obvious today (Islam and politics). Religion and politics are linked; economy and politics are also linked. See: Money.

How does politics affect business? In many ways. It is very important to see these interrelations in order to understand how our society is functioning.

Politics and education are also linked. Broadcasting politics is a good initiative, as long as media are willing to give accurate information to people, in order to better educate them in this serious matter. Political information should be true and clear.

But politics and power are also linked; those who are in power are not always willing to provide people with accurate information. Politics for dummies or funny politics are not the best answers...

The wise seeks to understand the structure and function of politics, in order to understand the intents and actions of politicians, and get out of a difficult situation. Because in doing so, he / she becomes more effective, succeed and enjoy happiness.

Understand-Politics: The homo-politicus

Now, lets talk politics...

The homo-politicus is a very complex specie. A specie both simple and difficult to understand. In each of us, lives this rare specie that many believe is disappearing; an endangered specie; a specie to be protected. But that specie renews... reproduces itself at a surprising speed; sometimes through co-opting, by scissiparity or copulation.

Politicians seems to be spontaneous generations. A politician could be likened to a lizard tail; a tail that regrows when cut. The homo-politicus is another phoenix who always reborn out of its ashes.

Nevertheless, given what we have just said, we invite you to explore this curious specie... To understand its psychology, behavior, intentions, actions, etc.

Understand-Politics: explore the specie

How does that happen in practice? It's simple.

* Primo. Choose a politician. You will certainly find one near you. Choose one in the country where you live, or elsewhere in the world. But you may also choose a politician who is no longer part of us; a politician who passed away. Anyway...

The most important is to choose one politician who passionate you. You may wish to select one who is alive and active in the country where you live; because in this case, its actions and decisions affect you in some way or another. The actions and decisions he/she takes, speed up or slow down your race to success and happiness. That politician will be your subject of study.

* Secondo. Find information on that politician of your choice. Find the line of his/her party; his/her vision, electoral platform, promises, achievements, successes, failures, etc. Search engines are a good start. Internet is full of information, no doubt. Another source of information can be his/her speeches and writings. Generally politicians put their ideas in writing. Although a thinking says this: "Great people never write", we think it may be a good idea to write ideas or have them written by someone else. For two reasons; One: words fly away, but writings remain. Two: we are also writing...

One way or another, it all depends on what someone writes. But while reading about the politician of your choice, make sure to also read critics and counter-critics. Because you and me know that: "Things are not always what they seem." Even when written black on white.

* Tierso. For a good understanding of the party line and the vision of the politician of your choice; but also for a good understanding of its promises, achievements, successes, failures, etc., we invite you to study the psychology, behavior, intentions, actions, etc., of that politician; do it in the light of criticisms and counter-criticisms.

In order to do so, use the principles we've suggested in the section: Knowing your entourage. See: Friendships (how to make, develop and keep friendships)

This practical exercise will help you understand-politics and benefit from it.

The same exercise can be done for the following political systems: communism, socialism, social democracy, capitalism, fascism, etc. But also for the following political trends: the extreme left, the left-wing, the center, the right-wing, the extreme right, and so on.

Understand-Politics: a sense of humor

Seriously, someone admitted to belong to the "extreme center". But this is probably a touch of humor; a political touch of humor, no doubt.

These exercises are very important. Because they can greatly help you make good decisions. Once again, many people have "some ideas" on politicians and political systems. But when asked to elaborate a little bit more about the issue and compare their thoughts to other points of view, they conclude:

"Politicians are all the same."

"Same beasts, same hairs."

"All political parties are the same."

No, no. Politicians are not the same; luckily. All political parties are not the same.

Understand-Politics: your conclusion?

If you carefully study the politician of your choice, by following these three proven steps, you will probably come to a conclusion; an open conclusion; a useful conclusion. Because unlike those who criticize just because they fell like criticizing (criticasters), you took the trouble to learn and understand. A reflection says this: "All that is understood is good."

You will know, in accordance with your conscience, if that politician is a politician in the noblest sense of the term; a politician full of virtues. You will know if a politician is honest or dishonest, an amateur or a professional, an angel or a demon. Whatever your conclusion, you will know how to get out of a difficult situation; at least in regard to that politician. You will see him/her coming, and be able to defend yourself; this means: to accept, reject or modify his / her offers.

And perhaps, due to all knowledge you would have accumulated during this stimulating exercise, you may want to:

* take action

* to combat directly or indirectly

* to form your own political party, or join one

* to write a book, create a website, make a movie, record a song, etc.

You will then give this advice to novices: "To get mad in your small corner is useless. Understand-politics. Study and take action, in order to change things for the better."

Understand-Politics: what is next?

And who knows, your actions may restore the image and activity of some homo-politicus; these politicians may have new image and activity that honors human race.

This change might restore virtues and skills that we have suggested at our page health, in the very important section: Health of the soul.

And the useful section: The development of mental faculties; see: Health of the mind (mental, intellectual).

On the page: Human relations, read also the following practical section: Professional relationships (work, business, undertakings)
