* Earn money with traditional-work

By traditional work we mean: to work for someone else. Many people earn money in a traditional way. Most of the time, schedules for this kind of work are: from 8 am to 4 pm; 4 pm to 12 pm; 12 pm to 8 am. It is therefore: the day shift; evening shift; and night shift.

There are variations, of course, depending of countries and professions. Variations also if you work for a public or private company, government, etc.

One way or another, someone is at work for 8 hours, in principle... and is paid for 7 ½, in principle... Because generally, the 30 minutes allocated to meals are not paid. This is the traditional pattern followed that the majority of workers in the world.

Traditional-work: A first category

Some employees are part of this traditional-work. Usually this category did not study for long period, or did not study at all. Their tasks are mainly manual. Some of these tasks are easily mastered in few hours or less; few months or less.

To be hired, a candidate must simply demonstrate that he/she is qualified to fill a giving position. That qualification can be obtained at the job place (someone proves himself on site during a probationary period of 3 months or more). In this category, some people are doing well.

Traditional-work: The second category

Many employees are also part of this traditional work; they have a more specific qualification, a more complex qualification. This qualification is obtained during a more or less long learning (at school or at the job place).

Such work requires a greater intellectual contribution. This qualification is generally sanctioned by an attestation, a certificate or diploma. In this category, some people are doing well.

We do not intend to list these traditional jobs. They are many. Many people earn their living that way. To all these people we say: "Congratulations!" And again, we wish them the best of both worlds.

Traditional-work: strugling

But alas, in these two categories, others pull the devil by the tail; with your leave. In other words, these people can not make ends meet. With the money they earn, they fail to cover their basic needs (food, rent, clothing, transportation, medication, etc.)

Between the devil and the deep blue see, they row against the current. Sometimes this is due to poor planning, poor monetary management (if they spend more than they earn; if they have eyes bigger than stomach).

To these people, we suggest this: to make an appointment with a specialist in financial planning. The specialist will help them establish a rigorous budget and teach them to effectively monitor that budget. But a good book on the art of budgeting can be found in a library or bookstore.

Traditional-work: other peoples

Other peoples fail to reach their monthly goals, because their job is not paying enough. They plan properly their spending, they cut some expenses and luxuries, but they never manage to see the end of the tunnel.

And yet they are not particularly big spenders. Month after month, year after year, they struggle to live... to survive. The bills pile up, they apply for credit cards, and debts are not far away; Inland Revenue and the sheriff are not away. These people look for a second job, a third or fourth job, with all the consequences this may have on their health and family relations. With this type of life, success and happiness are difficult to achieve.

Traditional-work: stupid job?

"There is no stupid job". That's true; but to a certain extent.

Someone might think: "There is no stupid job, but there are jobs for stupid people."

We believe that a stupid job is not necessarily done by a stupid person. We also believe that a stupid person does not necessarily have a stupid job. Everyone is free to think about that as he pleases...

Traditional-work: a good job?

A good job should help maintain a good physical and mental health. This means that a good job should help: eat well, live in a decent house, dress well, take care of the family; and why not enjoy yourself (afford a few treats, travel; have fun with family, friends and colleague, etc.)

But when a job doesn’t help live a minimum of life, enjoy pleasures of life, be happy, save enough money for the old days, and so on; then something must be done, and very quickly. But what to do, exactly?

Traditional-work: few advices

To those who choose to exercise traditional occupations as defined above, those who will be qualified after a more or less long training (school, attestation, certificate, diploma, degree, etc.) we say this: "Before you start a training, be sure to analyze your future job."

To do so, make sure that your job will be in demand for long time, make sure that your future job will be well paid. Here, well-paid means well paid; because a profession that is in demand today, but not tomorrow (a flash in the pan), is not interesting. Whoever commits the imprudence to look for this kind of profession may miss the point.

To analyze your future job means: to know the trends of your future job. In other words: to know if your future job will be interesting for many employers. In other words: what your future job will be worth in the labor market?.

This preliminary analysis can be done using government statistics of your country: the Ministry of Labor. But some employment agencies can guide you.

In the same way, career counselors, pedagogic counselors or orientation counselors in schools and universities can also help you plane your career and studies; can help you make a good choice of profession and learning; a wise choice. Why keep studying what will no be moneyable? Why insisting on getting a diploma that will decorate your wall, but will not decorate your wallet?

Traditional-work: happy-few and well-borns

However some people go to school, having already a formal guarantee that a job awaits them at the end of their studies: a job in the family business or in the enterprise of people they know. Their guarantee of employment may also come from someone well placed in the government; someone well seated who has good connections.

With such guarantees, these people are among the happy-few we just talked about above. Willingly, we will classify them in the category of the well-borns we have already mentioned above. To these people we say: "Bravo!"

But we are also talking to ordinary people...

These advices are also valid for the first category; those who will be qualify at the job place (those who will have to prove themselves on site during a probationary period of 3 months or more), and then start a career.

But this category, though often less paid than others, has one advantage: they don’t spend long time to learn a profession that could leave them behind. This allows them to start another career, if their first choice does not work (not paid as agreed, fed up with their work or colleagues, fed up with their boss, budget compression, layoff, closure of the company, etc.)

These people may quickly make one or more other applications and start another career. But it may be wise to consider being trained in another field: a field in demand; a well paid field.

One way or another, these two categories, which are traditional professions, have their share of risks. We have already mentioned some risks and unforeseens: not paid as agreed, fed up with this work or colleagues, fed up with the boss, budget compressions, layoffs, closure of the company, etc. But we may add this: crippling disease, sudden loss of property, new projects, new financial needs, etc.

Dear friends, we live in an uncertain world; an always changing world. Anything could happen.

The conventional wisdom says: "Do not put all your eggs in one basket."

Translated in this section, this wisdom also means: we must always seek new sources of income.

In other words, do not only depend on one single source of income. That is why the Institute of Human Cultivation suggests other non-traditional occupations; other occupations that leave the beaten track.
