Learing to read-well

We did not say: "Learning to read," but rather "Learning to read well." Having said that, we draw your attention to the fact that we are talking about the ability to read; but also about the wisdom to choose what you read.

Talking about the ability to read, few people know that all texts are not read the same way. There is a way to read each topic. Someone who exercises to read efficiently will benefit from his readings. To read well also means: to read quickly.

Time is short.

And in this increasingly pressed civilization, people have to be kept up to date. Anyone who wants to succeed and win many victories must have sufficient information (quantitative and qualitative).

But the quantity of information is often impressive; hence the need to learn to read very quickly. Do you know that some people well trained read 500 pages in 2 hours? Yes, you read well. I said ...500 pages in 2 hours... Full pages... This is around 15 seconds per page. 4 pages per minute. One page has approximately 18 cm per 10 cm (with approximately 433 words). But other readers seem to do better.

Writing-well: did you know that:

President Kennedy had a reading speed of more than 2000 words per minute; and recommended speed reading to his staff. Around 5 pages per minute.

John Stuart Mills, the English philosopher, took longer time to turn a page than to read it.

Howard Stephen Berg nicknamed "The fastest reader in the world" was able to read 10000 words per minute. And he is in the Guinness Book of Records. Around 23 pages per minute.

Read-well: and understand well

Speed reading is a proven and scientific method. Reading fast is not always a gift: anyone can learn speed reading (expert reading, global reading).

Incredible, you say! Yes. Incredible but true. The end word here is that these people better understand and retain what they read. Because when you will practice too, you will see that: to read quickly sharpens the intellect and memory.

Reading-well: What is your reading speed?

110 words per minute (WPM) Unsatisfactory; slow reader

240 words per minute (WPM) Not bad; oral reader; average reader; remove the subvocalisation

400 words per minute (WPM) It is coming; good reader; auditive reader; go ahead, cross this sound barrier

1000 words per minute (WPM) Excellent; visual reader; confirmed reader, but you can do better

To be on the same page, we suggest the following book: Méthode de lecture rapide F. Richaudeau. M and F. Gauquelin. Retz.

You can find other books on speed reading in English; equally useful. But the book we suggest was developed by the developer of the method. There are speed reading softwares for children and adults. We have personally learned speed reading. And after a few weeks of practice, we found that we started to read faster; our understanding and retention became better.

Read-well with speed reading

Workers, students, those who love to read, will find the method handy; surely. You have probably noticed that texts in newspapers look like columns. In the jargon of speed reading, these columns are called: columns of speed reading. These tight columns help eyes to run faster. It is an image. We won’t say more.

The results that you will get will be proportionate to your efforts; as in all activities, or almost. If you need more details contact us.

About the wisdom of choosing what to read, we have already said two words in the section: 1) How to educate your memory.

However let’s add this: whoever runs towards victory must choose his readings. Some authors are not worth the trouble to be read. They lose our valuable time.

Read-well: «Time is money.»

Why waste our time and money to buy failure and misfortune? Why use our intelligence at our expense? Ultimately, those pen-pushers are hazardous to the body, soul, spirit (mind, intelligence), emotions, and of course... the wallet. They are serious obstacles to progress.

For some authors the truth is that: their ideas are not worth the paper on which they write. And I am polite. Most of the time, they are the only one to believe what is in their "masterpieces." These "masterpieces", though sometimes acclaimed throughout the world, are "masterpieces" only in the word. And even so...

Read-well... OK. But we want to read rich, rewarding and fulfilling books. Those books that help us cultivate virtues, allows us to think and to think by ourselves. We are interested in reading books that make us move towards the heights of success and happiness. We will read their authors with our heart, soul and mind. To our fellow-creatures, we recommend these good authors who are writing so that the earth becomes a better place to live.

It is understood that immoral and amoral books which promote hatred, violence, visceral racism, stupidity, etc., not worth the trouble to be read, seen or even heard. And God knows that these types of books are proliferating these days. All we have said about reading can be extended to other works (drawing, painting, drama, play, film, comics, music, etc.).
